Free Time
I have unscheduled time on my hands today.
I was walking onto campus today, when a girl stopped me and told me that the campus had been shut down. I had to wonder where the candid camera was, then she explained that she worked in one of the offices on campus and a guy had told her the same thing when she had been walking in, but she’d gone ahead to her office only to find it empty. So, I took a glance at the road leading into campus and I realized that it looked rather devoid of life for about fifteen minutes before classes would begin for the day.
Walking back to my car, I realized what I had failed to notice before. The parking lots for both Methodist churches – which usually allow students to purchase parking – were empty but for a few cars. The two-hour parking on the curb next to aforementioned Methodist churches was also empty. Parking typically used by students who know they can park, dash to class, and dash back to their car before the Lubbock parking Nazis ticket them for being thirty seconds past the two-hour limit. Last but not least, on my way home I drive right by the huge commuter lot right next to the stadium, and sure enough it had only about ten cars in the whole lot and I saw several students leaving campus via the newly opened pedestrian bridge and a noticeable lack of students walking to campus.
Still, I checked my email after I got home and there were three emails in my inbox. Two from teachers, and one from the university emergency alert system saying the same thing: all classes are canceled (due to travel concerns from the heavy rains and subsequent flooding) and will resume on Monday.
Weird.
The thing is, I’m kind of disappointed. I like my classes. In fact, my British Renaissance Lit. and my Old & Middle English Lit. classes are the highlight of my Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule. I didn’t realize I was actually looking forward to class until I realized that it wasn’t going to happen.
To top it all off my teachers are moving today’s activities to Monday, I’ve already done all my homework (but for Statistics which isn’t due til Monday anyway), and I have to wonder: what the heck will I do all weekend?
Garbage can Basketball.
1. Cat boxing.
2. Blogging.
3. Internet scrabble.
4. Come help Liz grade papers and enter grades.
5. Tell us how much rain you got.
I like the idea of garbage can basketball; however, convince Sebastian to play also. He can pull paper balls OUT of the trashcan when you attempt to throw them in. Or perhaps get Sebastian to play paper ball “tennis”. Devise some sort of game to entertain the two of you. You are a creative sort! I will be spending the weekend putting in grades, as we finally have GradeSpeed up and running (three weeks late!). And considering I have a terrible cold as a result of walking to Robert’s school and the skies deciding to open up and dump GALLONS of water on me, I’d rather NOT have to do grades at all. But that’s not how the game works.
We went to see The Dark Knight this afternoon (early dismissal day in Kermit because of homecoming) and I was so exhausted from the week that I fell asleep and missed about 45 minutes of the movie. I have NEVER fallen asleep in a movie before! What a bummer.
Good ideas from everyone!
As for the rain, it hasn’t rained a drop since Thursday and though several ponds overflowed everything on my side of town was still very easy to drive through, etc. Just a few puddles.
State of emergency. Ha! They even had the TTU-SMU game last night (along with a rowdy party upstairs which I called the LPD in on).
